West Virginia isn’t typically considered to be one of the more gay friendly states in the US, but the members of West Virginia Pride are working to show everyone that gays and lesbians: “DO exist in West Virginia and are PROUD to be gay West Virginians.”
This year, Rainbow Pride of West Virginia’s Pride Parade and Festival celebrates its 13th anniversary. The yearly event allows the community in WV to bring attention to the fact that LGBT individuals deserve respect and recognition in their state.
The celebration will take place from May 29 – June 7, 2009 and include: the Miss Pride of West Virginia competition; WV Rainbow Run – a Covenant House Benefit (5K Race, 5 Walk and 1 Mile Walk); The Huntington Pride Picnic; Rainbow Talk Picnic Pot Luck – Women Only; Primetimers Wine Tasting; Documentary Night featuring For the Bible Tells Me So; Pride Doggie Day – Bring Your Dog!; Womyn’s Night At The Park (Sponsored by the National Organization for Women); Track and Field Day – Volleyball Tournament; Power of One Award Dinner; and the 13th Pride Parade and Festival on 6/7.
