The Power of The Seer

For all of us out there wishing there were more television shows and movies that depict lesbians, help is on the way. Linda Andersson, the Creator of The Seer, is hard at work in her mission of bringing a creative and exciting new story about cops, paranormal powers, and lesbian romance to a screen near you. The trailer for the show is already a viral hit, and eager audiences can’t wait to learn more, so Cherry Grrl caught up with Anderson to discuss her latest project, its sexy stars, and her unique vision that started it all.
CG: What is the basic plot of The Seer and what can you tell us about the lead character, Guin Marcus?
Linda Andersson (LA): The Seer is about a former cop, Guin Marcus, who is now a private detective and uses her sixth sense to solve crimes. Oh, yeah, and she just happens to be a lesbian.
The character, Guin Marcus left the LAPD for several reasons, including the break up between her and her lover, April Reese, who was also her cop partner at the time. Guin has a sixth sense that allows her to pick up on energy and see the past and present, where she can interact and actually become part of the vision. Her powers continually grow with time.
CG: How many episodes have you shot so far and are they at this time available for viewing?
LA: We have a pilot episode, which we shot last year, and we hope to have it available soon.
CG: How did you come up with the idea for the story? Did it require a lot of research in the area of paranormal powers, etc?
LA: The Seer idea and the way that Guin Marcus picks up on energy actually came from a personal experience, and it’s not what you’d think. Have you ever had a nightmare or one of those lovely ‘sing-song’ dreams that you can’t get out of your head so you move to another place on your bed to try to go back to sleep? Then everything is just great until the next day, when you lay down on that same spot and the memory of the dream or nightmare hits you. This is where the concept of Guin picking up on energy comes from and why the best place for her to pick up on it is in a bed, chair, couch, etc.
CG: Would you categorize the show as scary?
LA: No… It’s much sexier than it is scary.
CG: In what ways did Deborah Stewart fulfill what you were looking for in your lead actress?
LA: Besides the talent, she has the right cool edge, sensitivity, and sexiness to be Guin Marcus – and she makes the character believable and endearing.
CG: Did you ever consider casting a straight actress for the part or was it important to you to have an out lesbian in the role?
LA: Before I really knew Deborah, I didn’t know if she was straight or gay. All I knew was that she is a fabulous actress with amazing energy, and she looked like the Guin I had pictured in my mind while I was writing the pilot. I like using ‘out’ actors in my projects if they are the right fit, but I will consider anyone who is willing to support our LGBT projects as an actor, etc.
CG: What has been the most difficult aspect of getting your series developed and in front of audiences?
LA: The most difficult aspect is getting in the door when you are a virtual unknown, but we are making strides with this everyday because people are interested as soon as they see our trailer (www.watchtheseer.com). The fans have been great, and we’re not even on the air yet. We have gotten a lot of emails, all wanting to know when they can see the show.
CG: What can you tell us about some of the other characters in The Seer and the actors who play them?
LA: April Reese, played by Michelle Tomlinson, is Guin’s lost love. Since Guin left the police force, April has been promoted to detective. During the first episode they see each other for the first time since their breakup.
Det. Burnette, played by Vincent De Paul, is April’s detective partner. He has strong doubts about using Guin to help solve their cases, but does it anyway because they’ve reached a dead end in their investigation.
Jeremy Rains, played by Landall Goolsby, is the psychopath killer that they are trying to track down using Guin’s powers.
Dee Taylor, played by Patricia Melone, is Guin’s current girlfriend.
Annie Finn, played by Shante Reese, is Guin’s private detective partner.
CG: Where would you ideally like to take your project next?
LA: We hope to have the one-hour series picked up on cable, but we also have plans for shooting a prequel feature film showing the lives of Guin and April before they went their separate ways.
