She calls her music “a bit naughty.” Her label calls her sound “the audio equivalent of an Andy Warhol painting.” And over in the UK, they simply call Luciana Caporaso their “Queen of Electro.”
Fresh off her performance at San Francisco Pride, Luciana talks to CG about her dream collaborations, love of all things “arty,” and how she gets “a bit of a kick knowing the girls in the audience want to get it on” with her.
CherryGRRL (CG): How is pop/dance music different in the states, compared to the UK?
Luciana: The music in the states seems to be more polarized. You have rock stations, hip hop stations, pop…There doesn’t seem to be a dance station unless it’s digital. Other than that, no matter where we are we all get our serving of Nicky Minaj, Rihanna , Katie Perry …(and Justin Beiber)…who I have a crush on.
CG: Who are some of your influences?
Luciana: Jeeeez, so many and so diverse. I always say David Bowie and Blondie because they are the two I relate to the most. Then Chrissie Hynde, Galliano, Audrey Hepburn…the list goes on.
CG: You’ve worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. Have you ever freaked out over working with anyone?
Luciana: Yes, always. Example: Kylie is going to take ‘Cupid Boy’ for her album…. My reaction: High kicks around my kitchen table. Betty White and Luciana collaboration… might have wee’d myself just a little bit on that one.
CG: Who is on your “I would give anything to work with them” list?
Luciana: OK, Calvin Harris if you’re reading this – call me.
