The Emmys may have happened a few months ago, but that didn’t stop Ed O’Neill, of Modern Family, from telling TV Guide that Jane Lynch shouldn’t have won her Emmy (for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy), instead, claiming that his co-star Sofia Vergara should’ve won the award. “I love Jane, honestly I do….But, I don’t think she should have gotten the Emmy for that part.”
Those be fightin’ words, Mr. O’Neill. Yes, Sofia Vergara is amazingly talented and absolutely hilare on your show, but, Lynch’s character–if you have watched Glee–is not a one note character. The continuing narrative plot of Sue’s touching relationship with her sister, Jean, who lives with down-syndrome, is case in point, as evidence of how Sue is not a hollow, heartless Vice character.
Although, don’t get me wrong, her ruthlessness as Vice “is outstanding.”
UPDATE: In response to Ed O’Neill’s derisive comment that Jane Lynch should not have won her Emmy for her portrayal of Sue Sylvester on Glee, Lynch’s representative is quoted as advising everyone to “let it go,
that’s what we’re doing.”
