So you watched her on Jackie Warner’s “Work Out” and you’ve caught some episodes of her vlog, Advanced P.E., but did you know that Briana Stockton was a personal trainer and health and fitness instructor before her days in reality TV land? Did you also know that she plays a major role in organizing some of the hottest lesbian events currently out there on the scenes from San Francisco to LA? Well, if not, then you should definitely check out what she has to say below about those areas of her life. And – if you already knew that Briana was a successful trainer, nutritionist, and promoter – learn more about what she looks for in a woman, her thoughts on reality TV, and more.

Cherry Grrl (CG): So it’s still only February but a lot of us out here in New York are buried under snow right now, so definitely really looking forward to Palm Springs in April for The Dinah.

Briana Stockton (BS): Oh, me too. I am definitely looking forward to it.

CG: Last year you did boot camps at the event. What do you have planned for this year?

BS: Well this year I am actually going to go back onboard and work with Mariah again. I was her Event Manager about 4 years ago and I ran The Dinah for her, for Club Skirts, so this year I am actually going back onboard as the Event Manager and I will help her run it. It will be a lot of fun. I’m excited just to be back onboard and be behind the scenes a little more and also to enjoy myself as well. As far as boot camps, I don’t think we’re doing them this year – we might possibly do them last minute. But I will also be doing the fashion show again this year.

CG: Sounds like you will be very busy.

BS: Yes, very busy.

CG: What is the status of Advanced P.E.? Any plans to do another season?

BS: Well we did season one with the girls for Club Skirts – it was the countdown to The Dinah – and then we shot a pilot for a group of San Francisco girls. They were like the street-smart girls… girls who either completed high school or may not have, are in the club scenes, don’t know anything about a gym. One was a rapper, one was a DJ, one was a promoter, one worked with kids. But I boot camped them and we did a pilot, however, they wanted me to pick it up and do it but I can’t travel right now from San Francisco and back with all the projects I have going on. So I may do another season here in Los Angeles – I’m not quite sure yet. It’s kind of up in the air.

CG: So how did you first get interested in the health, fitness, and training areas?

BS: I was an athlete my whole life and then in college I went to school for kinesiology, the study of the body and physical education. I wanted to work with adaptive children, kids with disabilities. And I did intern with that and was totally involved and then I took a course for personal training at the end of my last semester and I just picked up a client. Once I saw like the habits change, her body change, her behavior, her choices, and how much happier she was, I just fell in love with the job and have been happy with it ever since. And that was probably about 5 years ago.

CG: Now, when you were on “Work Out,” they didn’t focus on you being a trainer.

BS: No, not at all.

CG: So how did that make you feel when you were watching it?

BS: It was… well, the whole experience of “Work Out” and the whole reality thing to me was pretty disturbing. It basically wasn’t even an option that I wanted to have but I was dating Jackie and we were living together at the time so it was kind of like, well, do it or she is going to go on dates with other girls. And yeah, they didn’t have me as a trainer because they didn’t want it to mimic season 2 when she was dating Rebecca, who was a trainer at the gym. So I was just the girlfriend-bartender. And yeah it was hard because I was working at the gym at the time, I was training half of the Sky Lab clients, and I was busy doing that but on the show I was just this bartender-girlfriend. So yeah, it was a little hard. However, I got booked for events from there and then I just talked to people and let them know what I was doing. And then Advanced P.E. did let me shine in the career that I want to do.     (continued on next page)
