Lesbian Nominees at the NAACP Image Awards

The 40th Annual NAACP Image Awards air tonight at 8:00 PM (EST) on Fox and will be including at least two recognitions of the lesbian community. Presented annually, the NAACP Image Awards is the nation’s premier event celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice.

This year, out lesbian actress Wanda Sykes is nominated in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for her work on “The New Adventures of Old Christine.” In the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category, Sonja Sohn has been nominated for her portrayal of a lesbian character on the highly acclaimed HBO series, “The Wire.”
