GLAAD Defends Adam Lambert

November 25, 2009 · Print This Article

Much has been made about American Idol star Adam Lambert’s sexually charged American Music Awards performance (he simulated oral sex and kissed a male keyboard player), and ABC’s Good Morning America announced yesterday that they had cancelled his scheduled appearance on their show for today, but GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) has come to his defense.

GLAAD President, Jarrett Barrios had the following to say about Lambert’s performance, subsequent treatment by ABC, and decision by CBS’s Early Show to welcome him on:

“Some music performances, regardless of the sexual orientation of the performer, are tailored for a prime time audience but not for a morning show audience. It is disappointing that Good Morning America did not give Adam Lambert the opportunity to tailor his performance to their audience, as he did on their show in August 2009. We applaud the CBS Early Show for taking this opportunity to work with Lambert on a performance that is entertaining for an early morning television audience.”
