It’s been such an exciting week for the LGBT community.
First, the house that activist Aaron Jackson bought across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church got painted the colors of the Gay Pride Flag this week as a statement to the anti-gay church.
Then, millions of people changed their Facebook pictures to the Human Rights Campaign’s logo in support of marriage equality including, but not limited to: Beyonce, Kristen Bell, Tegan and Sara, Carson Daly, Leonardo DiCaprio and tons more.
Plus, the Millionaire Matchmaker, Patti Stanger, had her first lesbian client (a self described “butch on the streets and fem in the sheets”).
And last, but certainly not least, “Today” anchor Jenna Wolfe announced that she is pregnant!
Oh, and that she’s gay.
Wolfe and her girlfriend and fellow NBC journalist Stephanie Gosk, decided that after nearly a three year relationship, they are ready to throw a baby into the mix.
“Two years into a great relationship and we felt like we wanted to share our adventures with a wide-eyed, little person. The more we talked about it, the better the idea seemed,” Wolfe blogged. “And so in December, we embarked on Operation Baby. And might I just add that despite the morning sickness, it’s been the best decision we’ve ever made.”
Wolfe, who is five months pregnant, and her partner decided who would carry the baby the way most do, with a game of rock-paper-scissors.
“I won 34-31, so I’m carrying the baby,” Wolfe said.
And who is the father? That, America, is a good question. Though rumors have pointed to co-anchors Lester Holt and Matt Lauer, the moms-to-be have decided that the father of the baby is not going to be revealed.
Wolfe and Gosk decided that they should come out to the public about their relationship before the baby arrived.
“I think if you’re not who you are, you’re going to have a hard time explaining to your kid why it’s ok to wake up every day and walk out into the world proud of who they are,” Wolfe said. “We have gotten nothing but positive feedback.”
A lot of the positive feedback has come from Wolfe’s family. In her blog she writes that between telling her family that she had scaled the tallest building in Canada, swam with killer sharks and jet-packed 30 feet out of the water, telling them she was pregnant was more of shock than anything.
From risking her life in war-torn countries in order to report news, Gosk hasn’t been anything but bored lately either.
“Between the two of us, we’ve seen and we’ve done more than most will in a lifetime,” Wolfe wrote in her blog. “And yet both of us agree that THIS little girl will be the biggest and best adventure of our lives.”
Well congratulations Wolfe and Gosk and good luck in the next stage of your very exciting life adventure.
