A Real Grrl is a lesbian “grrl next door” who is doing something unique, interesting, creative, and – most importantly – something that they are proud of and want to share with others. Each week Cherry Grrl features a special reader… next week if could be you! Write to firstname.lastname@example.org to learn how.
Hometown: Birmingham, Alabama.
Get Real with us. My name is Jasmin Smith, a.k.a. Daysha Moore. I am an entertainer at the Quest Club in Birmingham, Alabama. I have been an entertainer for five years now and been a part of the only all lez girl group in Birmingham – working most gay bars. I now perform with a mixed cast and enjoy entertaining the crowd.
I am also the Central Alabama 2008 Miss Gay Pride titleholder. I worked really hard to win my title and, after two years of competing, I won. I do my best to represent my lesbian community, trying to make sure we are treated with equality.
I am also the president of a nonprofit organization that helps AIDS Alabama. (Mystic Krewe of Caritas). I feel it is important to educate everyone on the spread of AIDS and the prevention of the virus. I have lost many loved ones – gay, straight, young, and old.
Last but not least, I am the proud mother of three wonderful children whose innocence is priceless. I always told them: your heart has no eyes and you love who you love, color or sex shouldn’t matter. They keep me in the fight for changing the world and I believe that the children are our future! Teach them tolerance and understanding and see the world years from now. That’s my dream and my life.
