Book Review: The Gemini Deception

Politics. It’s amazing how one simple word can elicit such a wide range of meanings and emotions. From the ultra-conservative to the extreme liberal and everywhere in between, politics is a dicey topic. But it’s one that Kim Baldwin and Xenia Alexiou have made front-and-center in their new novel, The Gemini Deception, now available from Bold Strokes Books. The most recent novel in the action-packed Elite Operatives Series, The Gemini Deception pins two political adversaries against one another: one trying to preserve the integrity of the American political system and one who is hell-bent on destroying it.

There are moments in each of our lives that define us: words we say, things we do, decisions we make, that have a direct impact on the person we become. For Ryden Wagner, that moment has come: spend the rest of her life in jail for a crime she didn’t commit or agree to a secret coup by an unknown associate. Choosing the lesser of two evils, and hoping to spare her life, Ryden agrees to the latter, only to find out that she must impersonate Elizabeth Thomas, the first female President of the United States, until her captor sees fit to release her.

As a member of the Elite Operative Organization, Harper Kennedy’s job is to protect the lives of the most powerful and wealthy people around the world. Her newest assignment is to guard the President after a failed assassination attempt. But the closer Harper finds herself to the President, the more questions arise about who is responsible for the attempt on the President’s life, and the harder Harper has to fight to quell the growing attraction between them.

TQ, a black-market dealer of weapons, organs, and anything in between, believes she has orchestrated the perfect coup: switch a doppelganger for the real President until TQ’s political agenda is met, and walk away without anyone suspecting a thing. But when an old rival comes back, will TQ’s need for revenge get in the way of her plans?

Throw in a Russian crime boss and a secret that could destroy the EOO, and you have one of the most fast-paced thrillers I’ve read in a long time. The Gemini Deception is a heart-pounding and suspenseful novel that lives up to its Elite Operatives Series predecessors. Kim Baldwin and Xenia Alexiou have teamed up to write a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat up until the very last page.
