Whopping 240 Million Won Spent By South Korea On Kim Jong Un’s Sis
South Korea has splurged on Kim Yo Jong, the younger sister of Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea and her staff as they came to attend the Winter Olympics held at Pyeongchang. The money spent on food and accommodation besides transport for the four delegates and 18 members of staff totaled a whopping 240 million won. Their accommodation was arranged at a five star hotel by the riverside in East Seoul. Lavish meals were arranged at best hotels for them and a meet with President Moon Jae-in at the Blue House.
As against this, money spent for preparing and training each of the 22 athletes participating in the Olympics from North Korea by the IOC amounted to $2,300 per person. The amount is much less than that spent on the Winter Olympics’ main delegation from North Korea comprising a 137 member orchestra and 229 cheerleaders. A budget of $2.6 million was approved by the Unification Ministry in the month of February for accommodating 418 delegates from the North who failed to be present for the competition.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in took a compromising stand in their barrage of propaganda, news and music through huge speakers which has been going on from almost beginning of 2016 on the North-South border by each of them. His decision of détente was taken in view of eliminating the possibility of arousing negative emotions among citizens of North Korea. With cooperation from the South’s military, Kim Jong Un’s name was avoided in their propaganda blasts at the North-South border. Correspondingly the North has lessened their loudspeaker’s volumes from the start of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games on February 9, 2018. The South though continues to blast the North in its broadcasts for spending excessive monies on nuclear testing causing hardships to its people.
