As one of the first out lesbian contestants on America’s Next Top Model, Kim Stolz (and her fabulous Nike Dunks) instantly became someone we wouldn’t soon forget – from mediating granola bar conspiracies to smizing her way into the top five on ANTM Cycle 5 – but it was her unwavering confidence in her sexuality that made her truly stand out. She’s been a bit busy since leaving Planet Tyra, chatting up the likes of Russell Brand, Robert Pattinson, and Stevie Nicks as a correspondent on behalf of MTV, and more recently, following her passion for politics into blogging for The Huffington Post, Fox Forum, and True Slant. These days you might find her rocking a power suit on Wall Street, further proof that she’s the rare reality show alum in possession of equal measures brains and beauty.
So where do you go after you’ve been a contestant on America’s Next Top Model, an MTV correspondent, a political commentator, a lesbian role model, and a financial day trader? The Dinah, of course. But before Kim Stolz takes to the pools of Palm Springs, she keeps it real with CherryGRRL’s 20 Questions.
CherryGRRL (CG): What are you working on at the moment?
Kim Stolz (KS): Two things. I started working in finance almost two years ago. I trade equity derivatives at an institutional broker on Wall Street. It’s so much fun and perfect for my numbers-oriented, type A personality. To satiate my creative side, I’m also working on a book that will be published next year by Rodale. It is tentatively titled Can’t Stop and explores the impact of social media, digital use and reality television on our generation. I’m also just starting to work on a new lesbian NYC blog with a few other people – very early stages – but we’re starting it on Tumblr just as a test and launching soon. It’s called OutNYLez.
CG: If you could only bring five items with you to Dinah, what would they be?
KS: 1) 5 bikinis. Will probably lose 3 in the pool.
2) My new wine necklace.
3) The ability to stay awake for 2.5 days straight.
4) Mase? Just kidding. not kidding?
5) Flowers – as apology to girlfriend for activities with regard to #1
CG: If you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
KS: Stevie Nicks.
CG: When was the last time you had butterflies in your stomach?
KS: The last time I saw my girlfriend, Lexi.
CG: Best perk of being on America’s Next Top Model?
KS: Filling out this questionnaire.
CG: Album you’ll never get tired of hearing?
KS: “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac
CG: If you could live in any other time period in history, which would you choose?
KS: 1920s, The Great Gatsby era.
